Leslie B., CMD, Dosimetrist

A graduate of George Washington University, Leslie is board certified under the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board and is a member of the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists.

The medical dosimetrist is a member of the radiation oncology team who performs calculation for the accurate delivery of the radiation oncologists prescribed dose and verifies the mathematical accuracy of all calculations.

“I derive computerized treatment plans that maintain a delicate balance between delivering the prescribed dose while ensuring the patient will not lose important healthy organ function,” explains Leslie.

To help with this job, she utilizes advanced computer technologies that place The Cancer Center at the forefront of many new processes.

"We plan with 3D computers with IMRT that enable us to give higher doses of radiation to a tumor while lowering doses to sensitive tissue structures,” says Leslie.

Using this technology to contribute to cancer survivorship is, says Leslie, "amazing."

Elizabeth C., RN

Elizabeth holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Wheeling Jesuit University. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in nursing.

Elizabeth, who joined The Cancer Center in August 2009, has been an oncology nurse for three years and is an active member of the Oncology Nursing Society and the Radiation Nursing Special Interest Group.

She works closely with Dr. Aggarwal to provide care for the physical, emotional and psychological needs of each patient during their radiation treatments.

"I'm honored to have a small part in helping each patient with their cancer journey," says Elizabeth.

Erika T., LPN

Erika studied in Charlottesville, Virginia to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and graduated in 2003. Erika has worked in oncology for six years and recently became a member of the radiation oncology team at The Cancer Center.

Erika credits her mother for helping her from a young age to realize how special it is to be a nurse. She feels working with the patients at The Cancer Center is what her mother always meant.

Erika also works closely with Dr. Aggarwal to care for patients during and after their radiation treatments. "It makes me smile every time I see our patients walk through the door because I am happy and honored to be apart of this particular journey in their life," says Erika.

Andrea J., Radiation Therapist

Andrea holds a degree in radiologic technology from Northern Virginia College, and when the opportunity to take her training to a higher level with radiation therapy presented itself, she took full advantage.

“Helping the patients at The Cancer Center has given me perspective in every aspect of my life," says Andrea. "I consider this profession my calling.”

Andrea has been a member of the Northern Virginia community for over 12 years. She recently graduated with honors from Virginia Western College with a certificate in radiation therapy.

“My training took me to many radiation therapy facilities in Northern Virginia, and I am proud to be a part of the professional, caring team here at The Cancer Center.”

Ed K., Radiation Therapist

Ed received his degree in radiation therapy from the University of Wisconsin in 1990. He has a vast wealth of experience working in various sites throughout the country during the last 19 years. He joined us a staff radiation therapist in 2008.

"I'm happy to be able to serve the people of this community through my work at The Cancer Center," says Ed.

Tina V., Radiation Therapist

Tina received her radiation therapy degree from Alleghany Community College in 1992, and joined The Cancer Center in March of 2007. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge by serving as a chief therapist at her previous facility in Salisbury, Maryland.

Tina was drawn to this healthcare specialty while caring for her father who was undergoing treatments for cancer. "My own experience emphasized how important personal and caring quality medical care is," explains Tina.

So, she says she has chosen to devote her life to helping cancer patients fight the disease.  "It's satisfying to be able to apply my professional experience and personal passions by helping patients at The Cancer Center."
